Gymnastics is a sport that requires a free range of motion. You have to do moves on many pieces of equipment, which means the clothing you wear has to be able to give you that free range of motion and be safe at the same time. Many parents are confused about what their little girls should wear when practicing gymnastics. Are shorts okay? Should they spend the money on gymnastics leotards for them to practice in instead? Read on below for some tips about what gymnasts wear and what might be the best choice for you.
Gymnastics Leotards or Singlets
Gymnasts usually wear gymnastics leotards or what is often referred to as singlets. Leotards can come in long or short-sleeved, mesh or non-mesh and are usually cut much like a one-piece bikini. If your child doesn’t like the bikini style, then you can opt for a singlet, which is more of a boy cut but still just as safe and leaves freedom of movement. Many parents go with the leotards to begin with because their child is going to have to use the leotard in competition anyway.
Shorts
While shorts are not allowed in competitions, your child can wear them for practice if it is allowed. You don’t want to let them wear shorts that have buttons, snaps, or zippers however, as that can be uncomfortable and a danger as well. Pair the shorts with a tee-shirt or a leotard and they are great for practicing in.
These are just a couple of the things that gymnast can wear at practice. What you choose is entirely up to you and your child. For more information, contact the professionals at Garland Activewear.
